VIDEO: Houston Supporters at the MLS Cup
Ayla reported Monday on restrictions placed on travelling Houston Dynamo supporters in the wake of incidents of bad behavior on a few occasions during the 2011 season.
We will have more from Ayla and the Houston perspective as she puts some thoughts together from the affected groups.
In the meantime, our LA writer Tommy had his camera at the ready at the end of the 2011 MLS Cup. As the final seconds wound down, he was hoping to capture the final whistle and ensuing celebration as his team became League Champions for the third time.
Meet Ayla, Our New Houston Dynamo Writer…
Hi everybody! I’m Ayla, and I am Forever Orange. I have always paid special attention to the Dynamo and I quietly celebrated through our two MLS Cups. I am a born and bred Austinite and in 2008 I moved to Houston with my family.
The Dynamo immediately caught my attention, but I didn’t have very many opportunities to check out games before I moved away to go to college. Fast forward two years and I am back in Houston watching the World Cup religiously. That year Houston played home to the 2010 MLS All-Star Game. The events leading up to the game, lovingly nicknamed “soccer week” in Houston, gave me my first real chance to get up close and personal with the Houston Dynamo. From that week forward I was obsessed. I immediately started going to every game possible, bought season tickets and showed up at just about every Dynamo event there was.
Traveling Dynamo Supporters Groups Lose MLS Exemptions
Major League Soccer has sent an e-mail to Dynamo supporters groups telling them that as of March 1st Dynamo fans traveling to out of town games will no longer be permitted to bring in items listed as “supporters group exemptions” which include drums, streamers, and other supporters groups staples.
Miguel Sada, co-founder of El Batallon, posted the original text on his Twitter today.
Thursday Happy Hour: Homecoming Season
Today’s news was filled with homecomings in Major League Soccer:
The deal for Brian Ching to return to the Houston Dynamo from the Montreal Impact who picked him up in the Expansion Draft came to pass.
After a stint in Europe, former USMNT striker Eddie Johnson will be making a return to MLS. The league allocation process for Johnson will take place tomorrow.
Finally, it’s rumored that the Vancouver Whitecaps have an interest in bringing Soccer Ally and USMNT captain Carlos Bocanegra back to MLS. Bocanegra is one of several Americans playing for SPL’s financially struggling Rangers FC.
