The Portland Timbers’ John Spencer: Coach and Announcer
What happens when Portland Timbers coach John Spencer is doing an interview from the sidelines and is being questioned about subbing in Darlington Nagbe just as Nagbe scores a goal? He gives a goal call to rival the best announcers in the world.
Must have been the luck of the Irish that day as Portland came from behind to tie with FC Dallas 1-1 and have a total of 4 points so far this season. It’s a great start when compared to last season?
Thoughts on the Portland Invitational and Preseason for the Timbers
I was really excited to actually see all three Portland Invitational games streamed on the Portland Timbers website. Congratulations to the front office for making the tournament a success and being able to have fans watch it live on the website rather than seeing it through tweets. The tournament was action-packed and had huge attendance for a preseason tournament!
Overall I think the Timbers were amazing in their preseason, including the tournament. They never lost a match with 3 ties and 4 wins. They only allowed two goals (one of which was an own goal). They improved on their defense and their offense as well, but its far from perfection at this point. A couple of articles in the Oregonian have scores on how each player did in the games of the Portland Tournament.
I cannot wait till First Kick this weekend knowing that I am excited for the Timbers playing the Philadelphia Union. It will be very interesting and John Spencer has some difficult choices to make knowing that each position has some huge depth:
Who will be the starting striker with Kris Boyd: Perlaza, Nagbe, or Dike?
Who will be another central defender: Futty Danso or Mosquera?
Who will start right defense: Rodney Wallace or Mike Chabala?
