NYCFC as Major League Soccer’s 20th team may be the news of the day, but we push ahead with the Columbus Crew as our 12th team for ally recruitment.
Last May, four current Crew players signed onto our Allies List. Chad Marshall, Aaron Schoenfeld, Konrad Warzycha, and Josh Williams all responded to fans and us on Twitter to join the cause.
It was great to see Seattle fans get involved yesterday and recruiting players so let’s work together again today. Use the list below to ask players to join by tweeting at us or using the #soccerally hashtag.
This past Saturday was the second Pride Night put on by the Columbus Crew, making them the first team in Major League Soccer to repeat the event.
The Crew continued the streak of teams winning on their Pride Nights with a 4-3 victory over the New England Revolution. Things looked ominous for Columbus with two early goals from New England, but they were up 3-2 by the half with a brace from Federico Higuaín and a goal from Jairo Arrieta. In the second half Lee Nguyen evened things up with a penalty kick but birthday boy Arrieta scored his second goal late in the game for the 4-3 win.
Several gay4soccer readers shared their Pride Night pictures with us via Twitter Saturday night. If you have any you would like to share, Tweet them to @gay4soccer, or email us at email@example.com
And this month the Columbus Crew are doing it again.
Put on by Columbus’ LGBT community center and monthly publication, the Columbus Crew’s Pride Night will be Saturday, August 25 as they take on the New England Revolution.
Details about the game and tailgate, and information on how to get tickets, is at Stonewall Columbus’ webpage.
We start things off with the Columbus Crew, who as of yet have no one on the list. They’re first because as a club they’re notable for being America’s first pro sports team to host a tournament for gay teams. Also, they are travelling to Portland this weekend so potentially can be a part of the NOH8 Campaign photo shoot there the night before the game.
So help us get some of The Crew on our list! Use the links below to send messages to all of the players on Twitter, and make sure they Tweet at us or use the #soccerally hash tag. We’ll be keeping an eye on both all day. Also, share the Allies Page with them, so they can see the pledge we’re asking them to agree to.
