We are halfway through our countdown of our favorite hot draft picks this MLS preseason, so it seemed like a natural time to check in with last year’s favorite: Chandler Hoffman, Philadelphia Union forward.

We talked about memories of the 2012 SuperDraft and his first professional season, as well as how preseason 2013 is going and what the season ahead looks like with some seasoned veterans now part of the Union attack. And of course, he passes on his crown and sash with some advice for his hottest draft pick successor.

I had an opportunity to talk to Vancouver Whitecaps defender Jay DeMerit after the MLS All Star Game last week, and I asked him what he thought of his NOH8 Campaign photos that came out just days before, and if he had any words of encouragement for others considering participating:

Orlando City’s Jamie Watson: The Guys We Like Interview


USL PRO’s second season as a league kicks off this weekend and we had a chance to talk with Jamie Watson, star forward of league Champions Orlando City SC.

We talked about the upcoming season, his life in soccer, why he’s a soccer ally, and playing against David Testo in his Division 2 days.

Anton Hysén

Anton Hysén: The “Guys We Like” Interview


Anton Hysén wants to play in Major League Soccer.

Born in Liverpool and currently playing in Sweden’s Division 1 for Utsiktens BK, Hysén fell in love with the United States while in college, attending North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount. While the small school is in NCAA’s Third Division and didn’t provide much exposure to soccer in the States, Hysén nonetheless grew to greatly enjoy his time in America as well as the Americans he encountered, and ventures back as often as is possible.

Noting “I like everywhere; it’s still America,” where he plays isn’t much of an issue, he just wants to play professionally in one of the great cities in a country where he has come to enjoy his time. To him living and playing in America “would be an amazing feeling,” a feeling he’s had since his time in North Carolina.  read more…
