Tigres Promises Charity Donations for Positive Chants
Tigres UANL has promised to donate money to charity every time fans chant their team name on goal kicks instead of using homophobic language.
Making the announcement via Twitter, the club has vowed to help renovate a local school every time “Tigres” is chanted during an opposing team’s goal kick. A video posted to Twitter by a local filmmaker may have been the inspiration for the club’s plan.
Ahead of the current season, Liga MX granted referees greater power against homophobic language from fans. They will be permitted to suspend matches for five or ten minutes as a reaction to fan behavior.
