North Carolina Teams Hosting “Rainbow Hour”

North Carolina FC and the North Carolina Courage are hosting a “Rainbow Hour” networking event this Saturday with several LGBT organizations.

According to the team, this is a cause near and dear to their heart in their goal of ensuring that soccer is for everyone. The 2018 Gay Games in Paris, the You Can Play Project, and Equality North Carolina are all involved with the event at WakeMed Soccer Park, the teams’ home turf. In addition to some exciting announcements for the upcoming season, speakers from several of the partnering organizations will be on hand.

This event with Equality North Carolina is not the first time the team has worked with them since the passage of HB2, aka the “bathroom bill,” one year ago. The team used a friendly against West Ham United last summer to auction off player jerseys with the proceeds going toward the organization’s work. Owner Steve Malik has also been outspoken about the need to repeal HB2, including when discussing their team’s bid to join Major League Soccer. He toldĀ Sports Illustrated‘s Brian Straus that the team aims to be “part of the solution” and that the law is “‘unacceptable in so many different ways.'”

We are excited about some of the presentations and announcements slated to be a part of Saturday evening’s event. If you’re in the area and would like to attend the event, you can RSVP here.
