Don’t Cross the Line 2016
Major League Soccer has released this year’s Don’t Cross the Line video, and it’s a marked improvement over years past.
The video returns to specifically addressing racism, sexism, homophobia and other bullying, where other recent editions only referenced vague ideas like “respect.”
This year’s video makes its television debut during the Fox Sports 1 broadcast of Orlando vs. Portland. So (based on past experience) an anti-homophobia ad will air after plenty of fans using homophobia in chants. Hopefully MLS’ next step is seriously addressing violations of the principles they lay out in the video.
This year also introduces a partnership with RISE, an anti-racism organization.
