Pia Sundhage: Not Enough Credit for an Out Coach?
Outsports contributor Patricia Nell Warren offers this observation on Pia Sundhage coaching the USA women to a 4-3 come from behind victory over Canada in the Olympics Semifinals yesterday:
For us LGBT people, it’s an important moment to remember that the out coaches are as important as the out athletes.
She very well may be right. After all, I’m finding this is the first post on this site I’ve tagged with her name. As a community we tend to give a great deal of attention on the out athletes (as well as give those like Matthew Mitcham plenty of ogling.)
But coaches such as Sundhagen and Team GB’s Hope Powell go far too often overlooked in all of the hoopla over the athletes. After yesterday’s incredible win, it’s more than appropriate to say “Congratulations, Pia!”
