The Portland Timbers’ Andrew Jean-Baptiste, a rookie defender from the University of Connecticut, is one of our soccer allies here on gay4soccer. He wasn’t even supposed to play Monday night because another new signing Hanyer Mosquera was going to start. However, Mosquera couldn’t play because he was in Columbia dealing with his international transfer.

In a sense this was a blessing for people because Jean-Baptiste scored the first goal of the Timbers season.  The Timbers won 3-1 over the Union in their first and last meeting of the season with the Philadelphia Union because of the unbalanced schedule. This puts the Timbers in a tie for first place with Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps. Lets see if this trend can continue; good luck Andrew.
