The Houston Dynamo captured a big win against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center this weekend. The Dynamo, who made it all the way to the MLS Cup Finals last season, have not won their first game of the season since 2006.

It looked like the Dynamo would walk away scoreless in their first regular season match of 2012 when the game remained scoreless at the end of 90 minutes. It was Andre Hainault who notched the game winner in stoppage time to help the Dynamo walk away with three points. Hainault, who was married last November (boo!), is no stranger to scoring goals. Hainault scored three goals last season, with two of those goals coming in the Dynamo’s post season playoff run.

On Sunday Chivas USA matched the Dynamo’s speed and strength during the full 90 minutes and had some amazing shots on goal. There can be no denying that the Dynamo got lucky in the first half when a shot on goal bounced off of the far post and was quickly cleared away by the Dynamo back line. Geoff Cameron and the rest of the back line which included Bobby Boswell, Andre Hainault, and Corey Ashe proved to be the deciding factor in the game. While the Dynamo generated some good movement to the front in the second half, it was the aggressive defense that kept Chivas USA in check and helped Tally ‘The Wall’ Hall post a shut out in their first game of the season.

The Dynamo hosted a viewing party at local bar Sawyer Park which turned out to be a big hit. The bar was packed with Dynamo fans, while the Dynamo front office raffled off prizes and autographed merchandise. Compared to last years viewing parties, the event hosted by Sawyer Park blew the rest out of the water.

During the viewing party the Dynamo front office announced that the home opener at BBVA Compass Stadium on May 12th has officially sold out, and that tickets are going fast for the second home game against the Portland Timbers. Currently individual Portland Timbers tickets are only available for purchase by season ticket holders. Fans looking to purchase individual tickets should join the waiting list available on the Dynamo’s website. The front office has also announced that season ticket sales are up 70% and are expected to surpass 100% growth before the May 12th opener. With sell out crowds, a packed broadcast schedule and a strong opening performance the Dynamo are on track to have an excellent 2012 season.
