San Jose Stadium Gets Go-Ahead; League Fans Rejoice

Sometime in 2013, 17 years after their inaugural season, the fans of San Jose Earthquakes will get what’s been coming to them for a long time: a stadium of their own.
At a public meeting held Wednesday evening in front of an overflow crowd, the San Jose City Council rejected a citizen-filed objection to the construction of Earthquakes’ new home, essentially clearing the way for ground-breaking to begin this year. The objection, filed by an HOA rep on the grounds that the stadium would cause too much noise and light pollution and create a traffic concern, was rejected by a unanimous 6-0 vote after three hours of (overwhelmingly-supportive) public comments.
This is a great day in a league that, less than a decade ago, only boasted two team-built, soccer-specific stadiums. While the league’s on-field activities were focused in Arizona and San Diego during the proceedings, fans (and players) of every affiliation nonetheless kept an eye on San Jose, ultimately taking to social media to applaud the decision of the Council to move the stadium plans forward.
Now, with the fate of the stadium decided, there’s just one topic of conversation left: What do you think of the stadium’s proposed design?
Leave your architectural scrutiny below.
